“Bolt” Is Good

Published by rancosto at 4:36 pm under animation Edit This

I went to see Bolt, the new 3-D animated movie, and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise: an original, clean, and heartwarming story. Most of you probably know the premise: Bolt is a dog who plays a superhero in movies and believes his superpowers are real. When he gets off the movie set, he has to learn about the real world.

The whole story is very well done, but my favorite part is the message about abandoned pets we get to see through the pets’ eyes. Mittens, the homeless cat Bolt befriends during his adventures, turns out to be declawed, and we learn that she’d had a home once where she was supposedly “loved.” Yet, she was left on the streets to survive on her own. As someone who had seen numerous declawed cats at our local shelter, I greatly appreciate this theme being raised.
