An American Christmas Carol

Published by rancosto at 10:28 pm under movies Edit This

Have you ever wondered what the story of Scrooge would be like in America?? Probably not, LOL, but if any of you have or if you’d like to watch an unusual rendition of A Christmas Carol, this 1979 movie answers the question.

The movie it is set in Depression-era New England that has its own Scrooge, known as Benedict Slade and played by Henry Winkler. The crusty old businessman starts his Christmas day by collecting debts and taking away property from those who cannot pay him. He is then visited by the ghosts who take him on a journey through past, present, and future.

Americanizing a British classic does not always work, but it worked well enough in this case. The movie is well done and interesting to watch.
